Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours. This is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2024 with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program needs exist.

About the Position:
Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University's facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Electric Shop team as the Electrician. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under general supervision of the Logistical Services Manager for Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM), the Electrician performs a wide range of skilled journey-level electrical and related work in and around assigned buildings. Demonstrates a methodical and organized approach to completing work assignments, involving a high level of safety awareness in accordance with established safety procedures.
This position is highly safety conscious, works in accordance with established safety procedures, is disciplined in the proper use of PPE, and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Offers excellent customer service and is always courteous to campus customers while maintaining records and data related to work performed using computerized record-keeping systems. Defined by their dedication to the quality of their work, dependability, and reliability.
Cares for campus buildings and grounds to support the University's mission, vision, and values in higher education. Interacts with a diverse group of individuals. Works well in a team environment and understands the balance of sharing duties, taking ownership, and will take the initiative to complete tasks as needed. Essential Qualifications:
A combination of progressively responsible training and experience demonstrating the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of a standard electricians apprenticeship program.
Thorough knowledge of electrical theory, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment, and systems. Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the National Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California. Ability to assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatuses. Ability to operate all applicable tools and equipment necessary to perform skilled electrical work. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to create rough sketches and estimate costs, time, and materials necessary for electrical work. Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports and provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations required for the duties of the position.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Department of Industrial Relation's Electrician Certification. A thorough understanding of electrical practices and construction methods. Completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent to be at journey level in both training and experience. Knowledge of both maintenance and construction electricity. Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications. Knowledge of the equipment and systems listed above. Skill in the use of hand, power and diagnostic tools. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to use a computer to complete work assignments and enter data. Thorough knowledge of the applicable codes: National Fire Protection Association NFPA70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, National Electric Code, Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California, National Fire Code, and ADA Codes.

Works on uneven surfaces. Works within construction sites. Ability to wear a respirator. Move and install equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to walk on uneven ground. Ability to climb and work on a ladder and man lifts. Ability to work in confined spaces. Work is performed inside and out in a variety of weather conditions. All employees are subject to fingerprinting.
