Job Summary:
The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Laboratory Instructor/Senior Instructor I position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Instructor positions at Oregon State University are a dynamic and impactful opportunity to influence and support the engineers of the future. This position, in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), helps students adapt their technical understanding to work-ready skills by course instruction, developing lab materials, mentoring, and crafting overall program goals.

The primary purpose of this position is to run the laboratory sections in support of the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) degree. This position will contribute to the program through teaching of the laboratory sections, developing, refining and updating existing laboratory materials as well as developing new materials, and training teaching assistants to teach the labs effectively and uniformly.

Position duties will encompass all aspects of the laboratory course delivery and development and include but not be limited to: teaching lab sections; developing, refining and updating laboratory materials; grading of laboratory reports and course material; full operations of the Canvas course for the lab sections; arranging classrooms and off-site learning details; supervision and training of teaching assistants; and assisting in lecture settings; maintaining and advising on lab equipment and spaces.

This position is appointed on a 12-month appointment basis; full-time employment is desired, but FTE may be negotiable between 0.50 and 1.0 FTE. This is primarily an in person, on campus (Corvallis, OR) position instructing courses with class sizes of between 50-150 students and lab sizes of 24 students, but various teaching modalities including remote instruction may be needed.

Key Responsibilities
80% Teaching
In-person lab instruction
Holding office hours and assisting in lecture settings.
Material/course/lab development: includes developing, refining and updating new and existing laboratory and course materials.
Grading and recording of laboratory reports and course material.
Reviewing and recommending laboratory equipment and space improvements.

10% Supervision
Supervising and training teaching assistants to be able to teach the lab sections.

10% Service

Service includes participation in and leadership of School, College, and University committees, attending meetings, and contributing to outreach activities. Participation in service to the profession should be pursued as appropriate.



What You Will Need
Minimum Qualifications (All Ranks)
Masters Degree and at least a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Demonstrated ability to effectively instruct in Electrical Fundamentals, Introductory Digital Design, Lab Equipment/Tools and Introductory Circuit Design.
Demonstrated ability to utilize and teach using modern Electrical Engineering lab tools including power supplies, oscilloscopes, arbitrary wave generators, logic analyzers, and network analyzers.
Effective written and verbal English skills.
Evidence of promoting and enhancing inclusion through ongoing action in teaching, scholarship, and/or professional services.

For appointment at the rank of Instructor:

Experience teaching, mentoring, or training learners in industry or academia.

For appointment at the rank of Senior Instructor I:
Four years of professional experience teaching at the college- or university-level.
Sustained record of exceptional teaching at the college or university level as evidenced by student evaluations of teaching.
