The College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS) at CU Boulder is hiring for an Assistant Director, Engineering & Quantum Employer Relations to join the Engineering Career Services team! This position will lead strategic employer relations in CEAS and engage workforce partners (i.e. Employers, national laboratories, higher education institutions, and related partners) in engineering, applied science, and quantum fields.

The Assistant Director position has responsibility for coordinating with CEAS and campus partners to grow professional opportunities (ex: internships, full-time jobs), while measuring and analyzing key performance metrics for effectiveness. This position will gauge feedback from employer partners and identify ways to enhance student competitiveness for professional opportunities. To achieve these goals, this position will co-supervise the daily activities of the Engineering Employer Relations & Events Specialist and student workers.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Student Professional Development in CEAS. The Assistant Director will be an active leader in the Engineering Career Services team, which works to support the CEAS ProReady initiative, a career and professional development initiative in CEAS. This is a new position in CEAS, which will require candidates to possess excellent critical thinking, project management, partner engagement, and creative thinking skills. The Assistant Director will work closely with CU collaborators (including CEAS, CUBit Quantum Initiative, Industry & Foundation Relations, Research & Innovation Office, CU Career Services) and external collaborators (including employer partners and state/regional workforce ecosystems) to achieve their objectives.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Employer Relations - Engineering, Applied Science, & Quantum:
  • Lead the strategic employer relations operation for Engineering Career Services to connect employer partners, students, and CEAS collaborators with the goal of increasing student participation in internships, full-time hiring opportunities, and employer partnerships.
  • Coordinate and support employer relations with key partners, including CEAS academic departments, CEAS student support units, and other CU academic units, in partnership with the Senior Director of Student Professional Development.
  • Serve as the direct CEAS liaison to CU Career Services on employer relations matters, Handshake utilization, career fairs, and CU employer relations network meetings.
  • Communicate employer relations policies and standard processes, in alignment with National Association of College and Employers (NACE), CU Career Services, and state/federal law to ensure fair and equitable recruiting processes for employers and students.
  • Lead the development of the strategic framework for short- and long-term quantum employer engagement, including co-curricular programming and student and faculty support with the goal of increasing professional quantum experiences.
  • Coordinate opportunities for students to learn about quantum career opportunities (EX: industry speakers, company/lab tours) and participate quantum professional experiences (i.e. internships/fellowships, capstone experiences, leadership opportunities, part- and full-time employment).
  • Coordinate workshops and advising to help students to apply for quantum professional opportunities, which may include engagement of relevant CU student societies/organizations and scholar groups.
  • Support and advise CU faculty to broker appropriate connections with quantum industry partners and provide professional opportunities for students with whom they work with (i.e. CUBit, Quantum Scholars, Quantum Forge, Quantum Research Exchange (QRX), Department of Physics, and CEAS).

Management, Supervision, & Campus Partner Engagement:
  • Provide co-supervision for the Engineering Employer Relations & Events Specialist and student workers.
  • Develop and manage CEAS corporate/employer engagement programs, in partnership with CEAS and CU collaborators.
  • Develop and use appropriate tracking platforms and systems for employer interactions and communications.
  • Manage CEAS employer relations budget.
  • Convene CEAS and CU partners (faculty, staff, departments/programs) who work in the employer/corporate relations space.
  • Align strategic employer relations work with ProReady key performance indicators and CEAS strategic goals. Lead Engineering Career Services collection, analysis, and reporting of employer relations metrics in partnership with the Senior Director, CEAS Director of Analytics, Department of Physics, CU Career Services, and other key collaborators.
  • Seek employer feedback and data collection for continuous improvement and CEAS accreditation purposes.
  • Partner with campus collaborators (including CEAS departments/programs, Department of Physics, and CU Career Services) to implement and promote career & internship fairs for engineering, applied science, and quantum employers.
  • Serve as a liaison to CU partners and initiatives in engineering, applied science, and quantum workforce development (EX: CU Industry & Foundation Relations, Research & Innovation Office).
  • Participate in state or regional workforce events and opportunities, as assigned.

Other Duties:
  • Participate in CEAS, CUbit Quantum Initiative, Department of Physics, College of Arts & Sciences, Engineering Career Services, and related events and programming, as assigned by the Senior Director of Student Professional Development.
  • Be an active leader and contributor on the Engineering Career Services team, including staff and supervision meetings.
  • Given the evolving nature of this position, assume responsibility of tasks assigned by the Senior Director of Student Professional Development.
  • Stay apprised on relevant University, State of Colorado, state/federal, and employer relations/career services policies and procedures.
  • Participate in professional development activities and serve on unit, college or campus committees, as assigned.

The starting salary range for this position is $78,800- $91,173 annually. Relocation assistance is available within department guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, marketing, communications, science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 5 years professional experience, which may include university career services, staffing/recruiting/talent acquisition, non-profit, human resources, business, STEM, advancement, or other related industry experience.
