Description of Position:
The Engineering and Construction Departments at Diablo Valley College are seeking a qualified part-time instructor to teach Plane Surveying at the Pleasant Hill Campus in Spring 2026. Additional opportunities to teach engineering and/or construction courses may be available in future semesters.
The engineering and construction departments offer courses which fulfill AS degree requirements and transfer requirements to 4-year programs. Teaching assignments and courses taught may vary depending on student enrollment and the current needs of the department. Courses are offered primarily during daytime hours with some courses meeting in the evening and/or weekend hours. Applicants should also have interest and/or experience in supporting a highly diverse student population with a wide range of racial, ethnic, academic, and socio economic backgrounds, gender identities, and abilities. Candidates with prior teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with no prior teaching experience but a strong aptitude and interest in teaching are also encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Per the plane surveying curriculum, the applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):
Any bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of professional experience
OR
Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master's degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to teaching assignment.

Desirable Qualifications:
Prior teaching experience is desirable. A Master's degree (or equivalent) in engineering is desirable so that the instructor could potentially teach other engineering courses in the future if a need arises.
